Joseph Savarino, 26, grandson of legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, was charged Monday with misdemeanor driving while impaired. The charge stems from a collision Saturday night that killed a 15-year-old bicyclist in Durham, North Carolina.

Savarino admitted to drinking prior to the incident. Court records show a Breathalyzer test measured his blood alcohol concentration at 0.11%, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08%.

Savarino appeared in court Monday, where his driver's license was revoked. He was released on a $100,000 secured bond posted by his mother, Debbie Savarino, who is also an assistant athletic director at Duke.

This incident follows a 2021 DWI arrest by another of Krzyzewski's grandsons, Michael Savarino, who was operating a vehicle owned by then-Duke star Paolo Banchero. Charges against Banchero were later dropped.
