Punjab Kings achieved a stunning six-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals in an Indian Premier League run-fest on Saturday, successfully chasing a record 265-run target.
In a remarkable exhibition of T20 batting, a combined 529 runs were scored in 38.5 overs, featuring 33 sixes. Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, who led with an unbeaten 71, expressed his astonishment at his team's performance.
Delhi Capitals had posted what was briefly the season's highest total of 264-2, powered by KL Rahul's sensational 152 not out and Nitish Rana's 91. Rahul's innings included nine sixes and 16 fours off just 67 balls.
Chasing the steep target, Punjab openers Priyansh Arya (43) and Prabhsimran (76) launched an aggressive assault, scoring 116 runs in the first six powerplay overs. Iyer then guided his side home with a 36-ball blitz.
Delhi captain Axar Patel criticized his team's fielding after costly dropped chances contributed to the loss. Delhi fast bowler Lungi Ngidi left the game with a head injury but was reported to be stable.
