Manchester City inched closer to a first Women's Super League title since 2016, thanks to a stoppage-time header from defender Rebecca Knaak that sealed a gritty 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday.

City now lead the standings with 52 points-nine clear of Chelsea-with just one match remaining. A win at West Ham on May 16 would clinch the championship.

Liverpool had the better of the early chances. Aurelie Csillag and Grace Fisk both went close, with Fisk rattling the woodwork. City goalkeeper Jennifer Falk was forced into several key saves, denying Bunny Shaw deep into stoppage time.

But from the resulting corner, Knaak rose above her marker to guide a header toward the bottom-left corner. Falk was unable to keep it out, sparking celebrations at the Academy Stadium.

Elsewhere, fourth-place Manchester United saw their Champions League hopes dented after a 1-1 draw with Brighton. Tottenham beat London City Lionesses 2-1 to stay fifth.
