Western Michigan freshman softball player Kendall Kotzmacher files her first taxes knowing part of her payment goes towards litigation over her home state's stance on trans athletes in girls' sports. She competed against a male transgender pitcher in the 2025 Minnesota state playoffs who dominated her team, ending her high school season. Kotzmacher is concerned her younger sister may face similar situations.

Kendall's frustration stems from feeling her hard work and that of other girls being undermined. She advocates for stripping Champlin Park's championship title due to their male athlete's participation.

Champlin Park celebrated their State Championship victory while Bloomington Jefferson looked on, after a match where Champlin Park's male transgender pitcher was central to their success.

"I feel frustrated. This lawsuit shouldn’t exist if the state had common sense," Kotzmacher said.

The DOJ sued Minnesota education agencies on Monday for non-compliance with President Trump's mandate on trans athletes in girls' sports. This conflict centers around Champlin Park's transgender pitcher, Marissa Rothenberger, who won a state title with Champlin Park last year.
