The Detroit Lions have traded veteran running back David Montgomery to the Houston Texans. The deal, confirmed by multiple reports, sent Montgomery to Houston in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick, a 2027 seventh-round pick, and offensive lineman Juice Scruggs.
This transaction occurred just hours after Montgomery publicly addressed reports claiming he "wants out" of Detroit with a sarcastic response on social media. The Texans aim to bolster their run game, with Montgomery expected to share the backfield with rookie Woody Marks following Joe Mixon's injury.
Montgomery, who was a key part of the Lions' backfield alongside Jahmyr Gibbs, often handled short-yardage situations and spelled Gibbs, a Pro Bowl talent. In his three seasons with Detroit, Montgomery accumulated 2,506 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. He is currently under contract through the 2027 season.
