Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews exited Thursday's game against the Anaheim Ducks after sustaining a knee-on-knee hit from defenceman Radko Gudas.
The incident occurred in the second period when Matthews attempted a move in the slot and was struck directly in the left leg, causing him to fall.
Gudas received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the hit. Matthews, 28, had recently ended a 12-game goalless streak earlier in the period. He has recorded 53 points (27 goals, 26 assists) in 60 games this season.
