LISBON, March 17 - Sporting Lisbon staged a commanding 5-0 victory over Bodo/Glimt in extra time Tuesday night to advance to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.
Trailing 3-0 from the first leg in Norway, Sporting opened aggressively. Goncalo Inacio headed in from Francisco Trincao’s corner in the 34th minute.
Pedro Goncalves converted Luis Suarez’s cross in the 61st, and Suarez buried a VAR-awarded penalty in the 78th to level the tie on aggregate.
Maxi Araujo scored within two minutes of extra time. Substitute Rafael Nel added a fifth in stoppage time.
The win ends Bodo/Glimt’s European run and sends back-to-back Portuguese champions through.
