Liverpool FC and head coach Arne Slot have parted ways with immediate effect, the club announced Saturday.
The Dutchman, who led Liverpool to its 20th league title in his first season, endured a challenging second campaign. Despite record signings like Swedish striker Alexander Isak, a key injury and a dip in form for forward Mohamed Salah saw the team finish fifth.
In a joint statement, Liverpool’s ownership acknowledged Slot’s significant contributions, including the title win, but concluded that "change is necessary" for the club to progress.
Slot replaced fan favorite Jürgen Klopp ahead of the 2024 season. His relationship with Salah, the club’s third all-time top scorer, was strained, with Salah recently calling for a return to an aggressive attacking style. Salah is also set to leave this summer after nine trophy-laden years.
