Thousands of fans gathered at Alamein International Airport to welcome home Egypt's national football team. The Pharaohs delivered the country's finest World Cup performance, winning at the tournament for the first time and reaching the round of 16.

Supporters waved flags and carried banners praising the team. Captain Mohamed Salah was celebrated, with fans holding photos bearing the words "Thank You."

The squad paraded through New Alamein on an open-top bus. President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is scheduled to receive the team on Saturday.

Fans also carried large posters of coach Hossam Hassan, who drew attention during the tournament for his vocal support of the Palestinian cause. Hassan, Egypt's all-time leading scorer, carried a Palestinian flag on the pitch during matches.

The homecoming followed a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Argentina in the last 16. Egypt had led 2-0 before conceding three late goals. The team's journey included a group stage win over New Zealand and a penalty shootout victory against Australia.

Prior to the team's return, the Egyptian Football Association renewed the contracts of coach Hossam Hassan and his brother, assistant coach Ibrahim Hassan, through 2030. Hassan revitalized the team since taking charge in 2024, ending an eight-year World Cup absence.
