Super Bowl champion Monte Coleman, a cornerstone of the Washington Commanders' defenses for 16 years, has died at 68. The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and the Commanders confirmed his passing.
Coleman was a key player on three Super Bowl-winning teams, known for his durability and leadership. Commanders owner Josh Harris described him as "one of the pillars of our championship defenses." After his playing career, Coleman transitioned to coaching, notably serving as head coach at Arkansas Pine-Bluff and leading them to a Southwestern Athletic Conference championship in 2012.
During his extensive NFL career, Coleman recorded 49.5 sacks, over 1,000 total tackles, 17 interceptions, and four defensive touchdowns. Athletic director Chris Robinson reflected that Coleman's legacy "is not only written in championships and honors, but in the lives he changed every single day."
