Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi says Marc Marquez is in high spirits after undergoing double surgery on Sunday, feeling a weight has been lifted off his shoulders.

The 33-year-old MotoGP champion had been scheduled for shoulder surgery after the Catalan Grand Prix. But a crash at the French GP sprint fractured his foot, so he opted to address both injuries in one procedure.

"Marc is very happy, because all these operations have lifted a weight off his shoulders - a problem that, right from the start of the season, was clearly holding him back," Tardozzi told DAZN.

Marquez had been dealing with the shoulder injury since crashing at the Indonesian Grand Prix last October. He still managed to set a lap record at Le Mans the week before surgery.

"It doesn't matter how long it takes, when he returns I think he'll give us plenty of reasons to celebrate," Tardozzi added.

Marquez currently sits seventh in the standings, 71 points behind championship leader Marco Bezzecchi.
