Max Scherzer is returning to the Toronto Blue Jays. The three-time Cy Young Award winner has agreed to a US$3 million, one-year contract with the reigning American League champions.

Scherzer, 41, can earn an additional US$10 million in performance bonuses. Last season, he posted a 5-5 record with a 5.19 ERA in 17 starts for the Blue Jays.
He also made three postseason starts, including appearances in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Scherzer has won two World Series titles and is an eight-time All-Star. His career record stands at 221-117 with a 3.22 ERA. The deal is subject to a successful physical.
