Mohamed Salah concluded his nine-year tenure at Liverpool with an assist in a 1-1 draw against Brentford on Sunday, securing fifth place and Champions League football for next season.
Despite recent criticism of coach Arne Slot's tactics, Salah started and hit the post with a free kick before setting up Curtis Jones in the 58th minute. It was his 93rd assist for the club, breaking Steven Gerrard's record of 92.
Salah was substituted 16 minutes later to a standing ovation. He was visibly emotional, teammates embracing him as he cried. He dropped to his knees for a brief prayer before exiting. He told Sky Sports: 'I think I cried more than in my whole life. We put this club back where it belongs.'
Andy Robertson, signed alongside Salah in 2017, also departed late in the match, replaced by Milos Kerkez. The crowd gave the Scottish defender a loud ovation.
Liverpool players and staff formed a guard of honour for the departing stars. Salah remained on the pitch long after the final whistle, addressing his exit: 'It's life. We won it all. The love from the fans is the most important thing for me.'
