The Toronto Maple Leafs have officially ushered in a new era. The club introduced franchise legend Mats Sundin as its senior executive adviser of hockey operations and John Chayka as general manager.

Sundin, a Hockey Hall of Famer and former captain, spent 13 of his 18 NHL seasons in Toronto. This marks his first management role. Chayka returns to the league after nearly six years away. He was previously the youngest GM in NHL history with the Arizona Coyotes.

The pair takes over a team at a crossroads. Toronto missed the playoffs for the first time since 2016, costing former GM Brad Treliving his job in March. The president position has been vacant since Brendan Shanahan's departure in 2025.
