Mexico has agreed to host the Iranian national football team for this summer's World Cup, resolving a key logistical hurdle for the team ahead of a politically charged tournament in North America.

President Claudia Sheinbaum stated Monday that her government sees "no reason to deny them the possibility of staying in Mexico," after Iran moved its pre-tournament camp from Arizona to Tijuana due to visa complications.

Iran's first two matches will be in Los Angeles, with the third in Seattle, making entry into the US unavoidable. The White House has not yet responded to Sheinbaum's announcement.

This development comes as the Trump administration claims progress on a deal with Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, though Tehran denies any finalized agreement.
