New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill announced a second price reduction for NJ Transit World Cup train tickets, lowering the round-trip fare from New York's Penn Station to MetLife Stadium to $98. The initial price of $150 faced backlash, leading to a first cut to $105 last week.
Sherrill credited private sponsors-DoorDash, Audible, FanDuel, DraftKings, PSE&G, South Jersey Industries, and American Water-for making the reduction possible without taxpayer money. The governor had criticized FIFA for not contributing to transport costs, sparking a public dispute. NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri defended the original price, citing the $48 million operational cost to move 40,000 fans per game. Regular round-trip fare to the stadium is $12.90.

Parking is prohibited at MetLife Stadium, and ride-sharing is limited, forcing fans to rely on NJ Transit. The first match at the venue is June 13, featuring Brazil vs. Morocco.
