The NASCAR world is honoring the late Kyle Busch this weekend, with two series - the Craftsman Truck Series and the O'Reilly Auto Parts Series - holding moments of silence before their races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Busch, a full-time Cup Series driver for over 20 years, died Thursday at age 41 after severe pneumonia progressed to sepsis. He was especially dominant in the Truck Series, winning 69 of 184 races and once owning a team. His final career victory came just days before his death, in a Truck Series race at Dover.
On Friday, the Truck Series was scheduled to race at Charlotte as part of Coca-Cola 600 weekend. Teams and fans observed a moment of silence for Busch before the event, which was postponed to Saturday due to rain.
Corey Day drove the No. 7 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports - the same truck Busch piloted to his last win. Day had qualified on pole after Friday's qualifying was rained out.
The O'Reilly Auto Parts Series also remembered Busch ahead of their race at Charlotte on Saturday. That race, too, was suspended due to rain.
Heavy hearts are expected Sunday when the Coca-Cola 600 - the Cup Series' longest race of the year - begins at 6 p.m. ET.
