New Zealand police confirm they are investigating an allegation made against a Cape Verde player, reported on April 10 in central Auckland. The allegation involves an incident during the FIFA Series in March.

The New Zealand Herald reports a player is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault at the team's hotel, following Cape Verde's March 27 match against Chile in Auckland.

The Cape Verde soccer federation could not be reached for comment. FIFA stated it cannot comment on an ongoing investigation.

New Zealand Football, the host federation for the FIFA Series matches, said police have not contacted them but they will assist if needed.

Cape Verde, an archipelago off West Africa, will make their World Cup debut in the June 11 to July 19 tournament co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico. They face former champions Spain, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia in the group phase.
