Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos has clarified the streaming giant’s strategy for live sports, stating the company is not pursuing full-season packages for any major league, including the NFL. Speaking on Fox Business Network, Sarandos emphasized Netflix’s focus on marquee events like Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and select MLB and NFL games.
This approach comes amid growing federal scrutiny of sports streaming fragmentation and the NFL’s antitrust exemption. Sarandos argued that Netflix offers an affordable way to watch sports, with its ad-supported tier starting at $8.99 per month.
Netflix will stream a Christmas Day NFL doubleheader this fall and expand to five games in 2026, including the league’s first game in Australia. Sarandos dismissed concerns about tech companies dominating entertainment, calling it a natural evolution of technology and consumer demand.
