Norway pulled off a stunning 3-2 overtime victory against Canada to claim the bronze medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship on Sunday. It is Norway's first medal at the tournament and their best-ever finish.
The Canadians, knocked out in the quarter-finals last year by Denmark, were heavily favored to secure their first podium since 2023. They fell behind 2-0 before Robert Thomas scored twice-the second with just eight seconds left-to force overtime.
Norway, who were hammered 6-0 by host nation Switzerland in their semi-final on Saturday, found one last reserve of energy. Noah Steen scored the winning goal 3:32 into overtime, prompting a congratulatory message from Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store on social media.
Switzerland faces Finland in the final later Sunday.
