Oklahoma has won its fourth NCAA women's gymnastics championship in five years, extending its program dynasty. Star gymnast Faith Torrez delivered a clutch final routine on the floor exercise to secure the victory.
Torrez, competing as the last athlete in the final rotation, scored a 9.950, giving the Sooners a team total of 198.1625. This narrowly edged out LSU, which finished with 198.0750, and secured Oklahoma's win.
Florida placed third, while Minnesota finished fourth, marking the best season in program history for the Gophers.
LSU had initially led after three rotations, boosted by a perfect 10 on vault from Kailin Chio. However, a fall by Oklahoma's Lexi Zeiss on the balance beam created an opening for the Sooners.
The championship came down to the final routines. Torrez, who battled injuries throughout the season, delivered a dynamic performance on the floor exercise. Chio's 9.900 on the beam was not enough to overcome the Sooners' final score.
Torrez also won the NCAA all-around title earlier in the week. "It means everything. I’m so proud of this team," Torrez stated after her all-around victory. "To do it with them, I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else."
