Norwegian cross-country skier Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo made Winter Olympics history on Saturday, capturing his sixth gold medal at the Milan Cortina Games. The victory came in the 50-kilometer mass start, setting a new record for the most gold medals by a single athlete in one Winter Olympics.

Klaebo broke the previous record of five golds held by American speedskater Eric Heiden since the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. While Heiden still holds the individual record, two of Klaebo's wins this Games were in team events.
Klaebo's Norwegian teammates Marin Loewstroem Nyenget and Emil Iversen secured silver and bronze, respectively. The trio established an early lead and maintained their advantage throughout the race.

This latest win adds to Klaebo's already impressive Olympic achievements. He previously became the first Winter Olympian to secure at least 10 gold medals, now boasting 13 in his career, placing him in elite company.
The victory also contributed to Norway's record-breaking performance, marking their 18th gold medal of the Games and extending their overall medal count to 40.
