Rick Pitino Backs 'Thank You, NYPD' Campaign Ahead of March Madness

St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino has joined the “Thank You, NYPD” campaign, recording a video message praising officers for keeping New York City safe. His tribute came just hours before the fifth-seeded Red Storm faced Northern Iowa in the NCAA Tournament’s first round in San Diego.

Madison Square Garden, home to St. John’s basketball, launched the initiative to counter negative narratives about law enforcement. On March 28, MSG will host a private concert for NYPD officers and staff featuring Cyndi Lauper, John Fogerty, Fat Joe, Chris Distefano, and Sam Morril.

MSG Entertainment will cover all costs for the event. CEO Jim Dolan called it a “sincere” gesture of gratitude, not a political statement, emphasizing that most New Yorkers support their police despite vocal opposition.
