The New York Police Department is deploying 10,000 officers to secure the New York Knicks ticker-tape parade this Thursday. This mobilization marks the largest planned event security operation in NYPD history as the city celebrates the franchise’s first NBA championship in 53 years.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that counter-terrorism units and drone detection teams are on high alert. The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in five games to capture the title. Notably, this is the first parade for the franchise, as the city did not hold one during the team's previous championships in the 1970s.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated the event will feature performances by Alicia Keys alongside the team. The procession begins at 10 a.m. ET near Battery Park, traveling up Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes before concluding at City Hall. Screening pens open at 6 a.m. ET with mandatory security checks for all attendees.
Officials have enforced strict prohibitions on bags, glass containers, backpacks, strollers, and umbrellas. While Bowling Green and Fulton subway stations remain open, Wall Street and City Hall stops will be closed. The City Hall ceremony requires tickets, and only credentialed workers or residents may access buildings along the route.
