Tarik Skubal, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, is set to represent Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. However, his participation will be limited, with Skubal planning to make only one start in the tournament.

Skubal explained that the decision prioritizes his commitment to the Detroit Tigers and his preparation for the upcoming MLB season. His schedule has been structured to align with his Opening Day start on March 26, requiring him to throw on March 7 against Great Britain.

"There's some risk, obviously, and I'm trying to do both things - trying to pitch for Team USA, but also I understand I need to be here with these guys and get ready for the season," Skubal stated. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the WBC while maintaining his readiness for the Tigers.

The pitcher recently won his arbitration case against the Tigers, securing a $32 million salary for the season, the highest for any arbitration-eligible pitcher. Skubal is also approaching free agency after this season.

Despite the limited role, Skubal is looking forward to representing his country, drawing inspiration from Team USA's recent successes.
