NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has dismissed San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan's concerns regarding the team's participation in a 2026 season-opening game in Melbourne, Australia.

Shanahan had expressed skepticism about the benefits of playing a game requiring a 19-20 hour flight to start the season. Goodell, however, stated he would send Shanahan an app to help with jet lag, noting his own positive experience with travel.

Goodell characterized coaches' priorities as solely focused on winning, but highlighted the NFL's commitment to expanding its global presence. He emphasized that the league views the Australia game not as a one-off event, but as a strategic, long-term investment in the market.
