Former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III, son of two U.S. Army veterans, visited Washington D.C. this Memorial Day weekend to partner with USAA at the Poppy Wall of Honor on the National Mall.

The wall features over 600,000 poppies, each representing a service member who gave their life for the country. Griffin emphasized the importance of remembering the fallen and their families: 'They gave the ultimate sacrifice. All they want is not to be forgotten.'

While acknowledging many will enjoy the long weekend with barbecues, Griffin urged reflection: 'It’s okay to have fun, but take a moment of silence. Share the stories of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can truly know the reason for Memorial Day.'

Griffin credited his parents and the military community for instilling discipline and mental fortitude, calling service members 'the best of us' and stressing the importance of honoring their legacy.
