RJ Barrett is set to play his first post-season basketball game in Toronto on Thursday night. The Raptors will host the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 3 of their playoff series, marking Toronto's return to the playoffs after a four-year absence. Barrett, with the team since December 2023, expressed excitement about playing in front of his hometown fans, family, and friends. "I feel like a little kid today, man," Barrett stated after morning shootaround. "I get to go play, not only in front of all the fans, but in front of my family and friends."
The Cavaliers currently lead the best-of-seven series 2-0. Scotiabank Arena will host Game 3 and potentially Game 4 on Sunday afternoon. Barrett highlighted the importance of securing a win at home to make it a series, noting, "It’s time for them to show it, and it’s time for us to show that we’ve got some fight in us."
Guard Jamal Shead emphasized the need for fan support, contrasting it with Cleveland's home-court advantage. "I think being in Scotia is gonna make a difference," Shead said. "I think that playing with our fans behind us is gonna make a really big difference for us in this game."
Barrett, however, offered a different perspective, stating he doesn't mind being the "villain" on the road and finds it motivating. He acknowledged the energy a home crowd provides, especially in a playoff setting. "Whenever you have that crowd there cheering for you, it definitely feels good," Barrett added.
