LONDON, March 16 - Chelsea captain Reece James will miss Tuesday’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg against Paris St Germain due to a hamstring injury, manager Liam Rosenior confirmed Monday.
James, 26, sustained the injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 Premier League loss to Newcastle United. He did not train ahead of the Stamford Bridge match, where Chelsea must overcome a 5-2 first-leg deficit.
"Reece felt something in his hamstring towards the end of the Newcastle game," Rosenior said. "We don’t know the full extent yet, but he will be out for tomorrow’s game. It could be serious - with a hamstring injury, it’s never ideal."
James recently signed a six-year contract extension, committing to the club until 2032.
