Britain will rejoin the World Rally Championship in 2027 with a new rally based in Aberdeen, Scotland. The event marks the end of an eight-year absence since Wales Rally GB last ran in 2019.

The rally will feature gravel roads across Aberdeenshire and Moray in northeast Scotland. Organizers say it represents a major expansion of the WRC’s footprint in the UK.

FIA deputy president for sport Malcolm Wilson called the return "a huge announcement," highlighting Britain’s deep rally heritage. "The return of a flagship world championship event in Scotland is the start of the next chapter," Wilson said.

Scotland has produced rally legends, including 1995 world champion Colin McRae and co-driver Robert Reid, who won the 2001 title with Richard Burns. David Richards, chairman of Motorsport UK, was a champion co-driver in 1981, while Wilson founded M-Sport, Ford’s long-time WRC team operator.
