DALLAS - Cristiano Ronaldo insists he will leave football with no regrets, but is not commenting on whether this World Cup is his last.

The 41-year-old, playing at a record sixth World Cup, says he will finish his career when he chooses.

"I'm going to be 1000 percent leaving with a clear conscience," Ronaldo told reporters Sunday. "I have given all I could to football. It's my passion."

Portugal's captain says he is not placing extra pressure on himself for Monday's knockout match against Spain, emphasizing enjoyment of the tournament.

Ronaldo noted the team's growing confidence but acknowledged Spain as a perennial contender.

"Spain is the favourite. They have more titles than Portugal," he said. "But this is a different competition. I have this feeling we are going to win."

The forward has scored just four goals against Spain in over 10 meetings, including a memorable hat-trick in a 3-3 draw at the 2018 World Cup.

Ronaldo's immediate goal is to advance, not to reflect on a potential final World Cup appearance.
