During pre-match introductions for the Six Nations match against Scotland, Princess Anne mistook England prop Joe Heyes for retired teammate Joe Marler. Heyes, a 26-year-old tighthead prop, was addressed by the Princess Royal, patron of the Scottish Rugby Union, who believed him to be Marler, a former loosehead who has since pursued an entertainment career.
"She thought I was Joe Marler which was... quite upsetting," Heyes commented on the encounter.
Marler, 35, recently appeared as a contestant on the reality television series "The Celebrity Traitors."
