Bernard Foley, the former Australian flyhalf nicknamed 'Iceman' for his composure under pressure, is retiring from professional rugby. His team, the Kubota Spears, announced the decision as the Japanese season concludes.

Foley, 36, earned 76 caps for Australia before moving to Japan, where he was instrumental in the Spears' 2023 League One title victory.

His career highlights include kicking the winning penalty for the New South Wales Waratahs to secure their first Super Rugby title in 2014. He later achieved national hero status during the 2015 World Cup, where he scored 28 points against England and kicked a last-minute penalty to eliminate Scotland.

Foley was also part of the 2019 World Cup squad. Despite leaving Australian rugby for Japan after that tournament, he earned a recall to the Wallabies in 2022.
