The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly moving on from quarterback Geno Smith. If a trade partner isn't found before the new league year begins, the team plans to release the 35-year-old. Smith was acquired last season and subsequently signed a two-year, $75 million extension, making $40 million last season.

Releasing Smith will result in an $18.5 million dead cap hit, but provide $8 million in salary cap relief. The Raiders will also avoid paying an additional $8.5 million in guaranteed money. Smith had a challenging season, leading the NFL with 17 interceptions and completing 67.4% of his passes for 3,205 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.

This marks the second consecutive offseason where a new head coach has moved on from Smith. The team's potential future quarterback could be Heisman Trophy winner Fernando Mendoza, should the Raiders select him with the top pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
