LONDON -- Serena Williams is determined to be ready for her Wimbledon doubles campaign with sister Venus after suffering a knee injury in singles.
The 44-year-old's comeback match ended in a three-set loss to Australia's Maya Joint. Williams tweaked her right knee late in the first set and was excused from her post-match media obligations by tournament medical staff.
Her agent, Jill Smoller, confirmed Williams left the grounds unaided and is doing everything possible to prepare for doubles.
The Williams sisters are scheduled to face Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio in the opening round.
Williams had recent doubles practice, partnering with Canada's Victoria Mboko at Queen's Club and the Czech Republic's Karolina Muchova in Berlin.
