Singaporean golfer Shannon Tan is set to compete in the upcoming HSBC Women's World Championship, a significant step in her pursuit of a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) card. The 21-year-old, fresh off a successful Ladies European Tour season where she secured the Order of Merit title, will be one of two home players in the elite field at Sentosa Golf Club.
Tan has already made history, becoming the first Singaporean to win on the Ladies European Tour and the first local female golfer to make the cut at a Major championship. Her transition to professional golf in 2024, while initially challenging with logistical hurdles, has been marked by rapid growth and a focus on steady improvement.
She emphasizes a process-driven approach, concentrating on one shot at a time and sticking to her game plan, rather than fixating on specific outcomes. Tan acknowledges the demanding nature of life on tour but draws strength from her support system, including her family, who relocated to Australia to support her golfing ambitions.

Currently ranked 90th in the world, Tan hopes her journey will inspire young golfers, demonstrating that competing on the global stage is achievable, much like swimmer Joseph Schooling's impact on swimming in Singapore. Her ultimate ambition remains securing an LPGA Tour card, a dream she has pursued since turning professional.
