Scotland has ended a 36-year wait for a World Cup victory. John McGinn scored the decisive goal in the 28th minute to secure a 1-0 win against Haiti on June 13 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
The Aston Villa captain’s shot took a deflection off a Haitian defender to find the net before a crowd of approximately 64,000 spectators. This marks Scotland’s first tournament victory since beating Sweden in 1990 and their first appearance since 1998.
Scotland now leads Group C with three points. Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 in the group's other opening match, leaving Scotland in control of their knockout stage destiny under the expanded 48-team format.
