NEW YORK - The San Antonio Spurs, facing elimination, went into attack mode Monday night, defeating the New York Knicks 115-111 at Madison Square Garden to cut the Knicks' series lead to 2-1.
Coach Mitch Johnson said his team showed better poise, finishing stronger than in the first two losses at home. The win snaps New York's 13-game postseason winning streak and marks the Knicks' first NBA Finals home game in 27 years.
Victor Wembanyama, the 7-foot-4 French superstar, led the Spurs with 32 points. After a costly error in Game 2, the 22-year-old spent his off-day sketching statues in a local park to clear his mind.
"Really tried to relax," he said. "I need time off, let my brain cool down, recover as much for the body as for the mind."
Game 4 is Wednesday in New York.
