The Kansas City Chiefs are acquiring quarterback Justin Fields from the New York Jets in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and $7 million of his guaranteed $10 million salary for the 2026 season. The move comes after an uncharacteristically poor season where the Chiefs lost eight of their last nine games, including a season-ending injury to Patrick Mahomes. Fields, a former No. 11 overall pick of the Chicago Bears, will provide depth as Mahomes recovers.

Patrick Mahomes, 15, throws a pass against the Los Angeles Chargers at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on December 14, 2025.

Fields, known for 9,039 passing yards and 52 touchdown passes, joins the Chiefs to help secure their playoff aspirations. The deal aims to ensure the Chiefs have a capable backup while Mahomes heals.
