Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, one of the most powerful figures in European football, ignited a political firestorm with a press conference described as sexist, shocking, and surreal.

Refusing to resign after a disastrous season-missing the Champions League final and losing La Liga to Barcelona-the 79-year-old instead announced he would stand for re-election.

But it was his remarks that drew fury. Pérez targeted journalists, including María José Fuenteálamo, questioning a woman's knowledge of football. He later told another female reporter, "That girl there, ask a question. The rest of you are very ugly."

Spain's leading radio station Cadena SER called it "arrogance and sexism." El Mundo compared his appearance to a "Trumpist exercise."

Pérez also alleged corruption at Barcelona, claiming "seven league titles were stolen" and announced a 500-page dossier for UEFA. Barcelona is considering legal action.

Critics noted the absence of self-criticism, with MARCA calling the conference "confusing" and "chaotic."

Real Madrid, the most successful club in Champions League history, now faces a deepening crisis off the pitch as its longest-serving president fights to hold onto power.
