Scottie Scheffler lauded Rory McIlroy's resilience in closing out the Masters, finishing just one shot behind the back-to-back champion. Scheffler, a two-time Masters winner, mounted a strong comeback after a difficult opening two rounds, playing bogey-free over the weekend to finish at 11-under par.
"You don't win the amount of tournaments that he's won out here without being pretty resilient," Scheffler stated regarding McIlroy's ability to navigate challenges. He acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining a significant lead at Augusta National, especially after seeing his own six-shot advantage diminish.
Scheffler attributed some of his title challenge's setback to a Friday 74, noting the shift in course conditions. He also reflected on pivotal moments on Sunday, including a missed putt on the 17th and his approach shot on the final hole, which he felt was affected by the wind.
Despite his disappointment, Scheffler expressed he would not dwell on the final holes. He highlighted his significant climb from 12 shots back at the start of the weekend to finishing just one shot shy of victory.
