AUGUSTA, Georgia - Scottie Scheffler mounted a dramatic charge at the Masters on Saturday, firing a seven-under-par 65 to surge back into contention. World number one Scheffler, who began the third round 12 shots off the lead held by Rory McIlroy, produced a bogey-free round featuring an eagle and four birdies in five holes.
"I did what I needed to do," Scheffler stated. "Went out and executed to give myself some opportunities."
The 2022 Masters champion, who also won in 2024, overcame a difficult Friday to dramatically improve his position. He now sits seven under par for the tournament, within striking distance of the largest 54-hole deficit overcome to win the Masters, which stands at eight shots.
Scheffler's round included a six-foot eagle putt at the second hole. Despite a slight miscue on the final holes, his performance has repositioned him as a significant threat in the championship.
