Super Bowl champion defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton revealed Sunday that his brother died by suicide. The Carolina Panthers player shared the news in an emotional message on Instagram Stories.
"This is one of the toughest pills we’ve ever had to swallow," Wharton wrote. "My family and I are not okay. Mental health is real. Please understand it’s okay to talk to someone."
He urged people to check on those they love-especially friends who appear strong but may be struggling silently. His brother, known as DB, was remembered for his wide smile and generous spirit.
Wharton played five seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning two Super Bowls before joining the Panthers in 2025. He has appeared in nine games for Carolina, recording 36 tackles and two sacks.
The NFL community has rallied around Wharton and his family during this difficult time.
