Tottenham Hotspur has condemned "vile, dehumanising racism" directed at defender Kevin Danso on social media following an error that led to a late equalizer against Brighton & Hove Albion. The incident places the Premier League side in the relegation zone.

Brighton scored in the closing minutes after Danso, an Austrian national team player, was dispossessed, allowing Georginio Rutter to equalize. Spurs remain in 18th place with five games left in the season, still seeking their first league win of 2026.

"We have heard and seen vile, dehumanising racism. Behaviour that is without doubt a criminal offence. It will not be tolerated," Spurs stated. The club confirmed they are reporting abusive content to London's Metropolitan Police and social media platforms, pushing for the strongest possible action against identified individuals.

"Kevin has our complete and unconditional support as a player and as a person. No one at this club will ever stand alone in the face of this," the club added, emphasizing that team form or league position cannot justify racist abuse.

Danso acknowledged the comments, stating, "The racist abuse has no place in this game or anywhere. But it doesn't define me and it won't distract me from what is important." He expressed his commitment to staying focused and returning stronger.
