Takehiro Tomiyasu has been ruled out of Japan's upcoming friendlies against Scotland and England because of injury. The setback raises concerns over his availability for the World Cup in North America.
The 27-year-old defender, recently called up by head coach Hajime Moriyasu, hasn't played for Japan since 2024. He left Arsenal last year after logging just six minutes due to a persistent knee injury.
His fitness struggles have continued at Ajax Amsterdam, where he's made only six appearances across all competitions. Japan faces Scotland at Hampden Park this Saturday, followed by England at Wembley on March 31.
The matches are vital preparation for the World Cup, where Japan is drawn in Group F with the Netherlands, Tunisia, and a playoff winner.
