TÜRKIYE 3, UNITED STATES 2
Inglewood, California - A last-gasp goal from substitute Kaan Ayhan gave Türkiye a 3-2 victory over a rotated United States squad on Thursday night at Los Angeles Stadium.
The match was a dead rubber, with the U.S. having already clinched first place in Group D and a spot in the knockout round. The Americans, who made nine lineup changes, took an early lead through Auston Trusty in the third minute.
Türkiye responded with goals from Arda Guler and Baris Yilmaz. Sebastian Berhalter equalized for the U.S. shortly after halftime, but Ayhan found an empty net in the final moments to secure the win.
The U.S. now prepares for a Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Santa Clara on Wednesday. Türkiye exits the tournament on a positive note.
Forward Christian Pulisic made his first appearance since the opener, entering in the 58th minute to a loud ovation. U.S. defender Auston Trusty was carried off late with an apparent hamstring injury.
Hollywood stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt were in attendance.
