European soccer's governing body UEFA has issued a blistering statement condemning FIFA's decision to suspend a one-game red card ban for US World Cup star Folarin Balogun.

UEFA declared the move "crossed a red line," stating that automatic suspensions for red cards are a fundamental, non-discretionary rule of the game. The organization expressed grave concern over setting a precedent that damages the "integrity of the game" during a major tournament.

"We express our disbelief at such an unprecedented, incomprehensible and unjustifiable decision," the UEFA statement read.

The controversy stems from a red card Balogun received in the USA's Round of 32 match against Bosnia. FIFA later suspended the ban, making the striker available for the next game.

Reports indicate former US President Donald Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino to lobby for a review of the decision. A legal team was reportedly assembled to challenge the officiating. Belgium, the USA's next opponent, was also granted the right to appeal.
