Union Berlin has strongly condemned sexist online abuse directed at Marie-Louise Eta after her historic appointment as interim head coach for the men’s first team. Eta, who will oversee the team for the remainder of the season, is the first woman to hold such a position in the Bundesliga.
Despite the landmark achievement, Eta faced derogatory and sexist comments on social media. Union director of football Horst Heldt expressed disappointment, stating, "We have 100 per cent confidence in Loui, complete conviction." Heldt criticized the discourse as "insane" and "embarrassing," vowing the club would protect its staff from harassment and prevent the debate from continuing.
Union Berlin currently sits 11th in the Bundesliga standings.
