Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk, the unbeaten heavyweight champion, stopped Dutch former kickboxer Rico Verhoeven with just one second left in the 11th round. The fight at the Pyramids of Giza was supposed to be a mismatch, but Verhoeven-fighting in only his second professional boxing bout-dominated from the start. Usyk avoided what would have been one of the greatest upsets in boxing history.
The bout was a WBC title defense. Verhoeven's only prior professional boxing fight was 12 years ago.
The victory keeps Usyk undefeated.
