PARIS - Paraguayan tennis player Adolfo Daniel Vallejo was fined $65,000 for a sexist remark about a female umpire during the French Open. Tournament director Amelie Mauresmo announced the penalty on Monday.

Vallejo blamed Brazilian referee Ana Carvalho for failing to control the crowd after his second-round loss to France's Moise Kouame. The match, played on Court Suzanne Lenglen, ended 6-3, 7-5, 3-6, 2-6, 7-6 (10-8).

"For us, things are very clear. This type of remark is not acceptable," Mauresmo said.
